The first hitch in my plan comes when I decide not to tell Doyle where it is exactly I need to go. I’d only wanted to get him out of the dungeon, not include him in my plans.
I realize now that it was a bad idea. I have no idea of where even to begin procuring a copy of the footage from the night of the ball.
I’d hardly thought about the small black camera that caught my eye that night, and I’d had to ask directions to the dungeon, so I know that I’m lost. Releasing a sigh, I finally stop walking and clear my throat. The noise is loud enough in the silent hallway that Doyle stops immediately and spins my way.
“Is there something wrong, Your Highness?” Doyle asks, and I find Lochlain gazing at me with a small smirk twisting lips. Having already been a party to my directionally challenged ways, it’s clear he knows what the problem is.
“Actually Doyle, I have a question. Before we go to the meeting, I need to get something,” I say vaguely, as I glance around to make sure we’re alone. Stepping in closer, I lower my voice. “I need to know where to go if I want to get a copy of some video footage. But I need to keep it as private as possible.”
Nodding his head, a thoughtful expression comes across Doyle’s face before I see his eyes light up. Leaning close, he motions me to lean in too. “If it were me, then I’d probably store it in the LSO’s office,” he says, but at my puzzled look, he shakes his head. “Sorry, I’m not used to spending time with anyone out of uniform. LSO stands for Lead Security Officer. They have an office in the east wing of the castle. It’s where they store all reports as well. If there are security tapes, that’s where you’ll find them. That’s what I’m assuming, at least. I don’t normally spend time outside of the hole. I mean, the dungeon.”
Grateful for his help, I smile and take a step back to give him a little space. After I stop moving, I look to see Lochlain watching us, and I lift a brow in question.
“What? I’m just enjoying the tour,” Lochlain says, and then I shake my head as I fight the urge to roll my eyes. It would likely only make him laugh anyway. He seems to enjoy getting a rise out of me.
“Nothing,” I say to Lochlain, lips twitching so I don’t accidentally return his grin and encourage him and look at Doyle. “I think that’s a great idea, Doyle. If you could take us to the LSO’s office, that would be great.”
“Yes, ma’am. I’ll do that now. This way,” Doyle says and begins to make his way down the hall.
I watch him as he walks and note how in just the short period of time he’s been out of the dungeon; he already seems lighter in some way. Sure,
